As some of you know, last month we received some heartbreaking news regarding a beloved former teammate - Paul Libby.
Paul played 3 seasons with the Pats from 2005-2007, leaving the team only after relocating to Northern MD with his wife Tanya and their 2 young boys. His game-winning homerun in the 2007 playoffs against the Brewers remains the biggest hit in club history, and those of us who played with him know him to be an awesome teammate and even better person.
On November 8, while on a hunting trip with family and friends, Paul fell from his tree stand and sustained extensive injuries including a broken neck which continues to leave him without use of his legs. You can learn more about Paul's recovery and send him well wishes here (you will need to register your email address):
As you can see from this site, Paul is surrounded with amazing family and friends who are all doing everything they can to aid him in this process. And while all that love and support can make all the difference in the world, there is also the reality that this is a truly life changing experience for Paul and his family and one that presents significant financial challenges.
A few weeks ago, Bob Shelton approached me about adding an honorary patch featuring Paul's #11 to the Pats' jersey sleeve for this upcoming season (and beyond) and selling them to our family and friends with all proceeds going toward the Paul Libby Fund. I immediately agreed and Bob set out on designing the patch and creating a process for producing and distributing them. See the attached files for a picture of the patch design, the official announcement doc, and the order form. The goal now is to fwd this on to your friends, post on Facebook, get the word out. We'd like to use this as a vehicle to lend some financial support to Paul and Tanya, while at the same time honoring Paul and keeping him in our thoughts.
Bob, awesome job on this. Thank you!
The patches are being sold for a minimum $10 donation. If you have questions or to place an order, contact Bob Shelton at
Thank you for your support. Lets see how much $$ we can raise for Libby!
Best Regards and Happy Holidays,
